Latitude IT is continuing to hire with all interviewing and on-boarding done virtually due to COVID-19.

Because applying for a new job during a global pandemic is especially challenging, we have been compiling candidate’s questions about interviewing, hiring, and virtual on-boarding, throughout these shifting conditions.

One question on the minds of candidates and companies in these unprecedented times: What does interviewing and on-boarding look like when we’re all staying home?

Our goal is to outline what hiring looks like by continually sharing updates and communicating to ensure everyone is up to date on what matters most. So below, we’ve laid out what we’re doing, and what we’re learning about virtual interviews, remote on-boarding, and more.

Our virtual interview process

Not only do we offer guidance on what to expect during each step of the process, but we also share best practices for virtual interviewing and feedback.

Additionally, you’ll work with the same Recruitment Consultant, throughout the entire hiring process. Our Recruitment Consultants are available by email, phone, LinkedIn and even WhatsApp, to answer any questions or concerns you might have, including accessibility needs. We will ensure you have exactly what is needed throughout the interview process.

Our interview process consists of three stages. We've outlined these below.

Initial screen

The first stage of our interviewing flow is an introductory call with a recruiter. We’ll use this time to learn more about your experience, share more information about the role, and leave time to answer questions about the company, the team, and what it would be like to remotely take on a new challenge.

Virtual “On-site”

When we started redesigning our interview process, the first question we asked ourselves was: “What will candidates miss about in-person interviews?” They can virtually meet with hiring managers and other team members, and they can also complete exercises online. But what about spending time at the office?

While nothing can replace an in-person experience, we've collected some alternatives to help provide insights. First, spend time with a video made up of found footage from the client's offices. Second, ask your interviewer to explain in detail about their "day in the life" at the company, including their commute, favorite local coffee shops, preferred workspaces etc.

After successfully completing the interview process, your interviewers will consolidate feedback and if there's a good fit between your skills and experiences with the open role, we will extend an offer.

For the sake of this walkthrough, we will assume you've decided to accept the job offer. The next step in the process is pre-boarding followed by on-boarding.

Pre-boarding & on-boarding

As soon as your offer is accepted, the Recruitment Consultant steps in to help guide you through the necessary steps leading up to your first day. You may receive an email with some working from home tips and a request to confirm your physical address so they can ship your laptop. (If delivery isn't possible due to a border closure or delays, we'll work together on a contingency plan.)

Prior to your start date, we send you a full rundown of what to expect from your first week.

Your first day is about getting set up and settling in. You'll take some time to setup your laptop and gain access to the systems and tools with provided instructions. You'll then spend much of the afternoon with your manager, getting connected and getting to know each other and your new team virtually. Your Recruitment Consultant will be available for answers to any questions that may come up.

After your on-boarding week, you're off and running with plenty of people and resources to support you along the way. Your Recruitment Consultant will be in touch regularly to catch up and to make sure that you are settling in well.
